MOONRAKER (Vanderhout Internationale Uitgaven)
“Moonraker” turned out to be a big summer blockbuster for EON productions, and many tie-ins were produced for the film from Moonraker space shuttle models to a doll of Roger Moore as James Bond. Over in Holland, the Netherlands based manufacturer Vanderhout Internationale Uitgaven B.V. produced, in 1979, under licence from EON and Glidrose Ltd., the third “Moonraker” based trading card set, this time it was a 180 piece sticker set. Each pack contained six stickers, the bubblegum was lost during the space battle. When purchasing a whole box, you were almost sure to get a complete set, although this was not guaranteed by the manufacturer, as it is today. I was able to purchase several boxes and noticed that sticker N° 24 is the hardest one to find. The "Vanderhout" Company also produced an album to hold the 180 stickers. Inside the album there was a special form attached that could be used to order your missing stickers. The price to order your missing stickers was only 1 Belgian Franc per sticker and 15 Belgian Francs as to cover for the administration costs, if only all trading card set were so easy to complete.

Box, album and wrappers had a very simple design, Roger Moore as agent 007 dressed in a space suit and armed with a laser gun. The design was very applicable with the movie. Vanderhout really did a superb job. The stickers are quiet easy to collect, again you may find them at local flea markets, movie fairs, eBay etc…..Album wise, this one is harder to find, but they do pop-up, sometimes very cheaply, I bought mine for only 2€ at a local flea market. Lucky me. Complete boxes are getting harder to find day by day, expect a retail price starting from 25€.
The text on the wrappers, box and album was bilingual, French and Dutch. This smart marketing step from the manufacturer meant it was possible to create a French album or a Dutch album. If you wanted a Dutch album, then you had to stick the stickers on top of the French text and vice versa if you wanted a French album, it was on top of the Dutch text. It was a very simple and a smart invention to reach both the French and the Dutch speaking parts of Belgium.

The colouring is not always perfect, but that was 1979 and the sticker set was actually created for the young ones among us, not the professional collectors. As for the edges and the card cutting, the measurements are reasonable, but the white border isn't exactly the same for all the cards. This nice set is a must have for every serious Bond collector. If you didn't manage to collect them all, here below you can enjoy a full pictorial.
