Dear James Bond trading card collectors, Rittenhouse did it again. In the beginning of February 2016 Rittenhouse Archives announced a new James Bond trading card on their website due to be released on the 27th April. You will have a license to kill with the new James Bond 007 Classics Trading Cards! The 72-card base set highlights "The World is Not Enough" with more than 130 different pictures, retelling the entire story, scene by scene. Throwback sets include "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", "The Man with the Golden Gun", and "Licence to Kill", each with more than 100 different stills taken from the film. The checklist was online on the 22nd of March, to be completed with all the autograph cards on the 8th of April 2016. With more than four hundred cards, this card set will lower down your bank account to minus zero. The cards are packed in wrappers holding only five cards, each counter display box holds 24 wrappers or packs. This time there are only 6500 boxes instead of 8500 for the previous card set. The box is made of black cardboard showing the title "007 Classics" in shiny gold. A very poor design showing no pictures of what can be found inside a box. So what's new in this set? Steve Charendoff managed to get thirty-three new autograph cards including a full bleed from Daniela Bianchi, thirteen relic cards with a new design, eight SPECTRE Metal Gallery cards and the start of a new series "Double-Sided Mirror" cards. The basic set from "The World Is Not Enough" and the throwback set from "Licence To Kill" can be found with a golden movie title. These two sets are extremely rare, just one card in twenty-four packs and sequentially numbered.

Three promotion cards were created and distributed, the promo card P1 showing a picture of James Bond & Q in a scene from "The World Is Not Enough", the promo card P2 showing Denise Richards as Dr. Christmas Jones and the promo card P3 exclusive as a bonus when purchasing a binder showing George Lazenby as James Bond in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". The first bidding on eBay was in March where the promos P1, P2 and full cases could be bought in advance. No sell sheet, no ad sheet and nothing that could be downloaded. Very poor promotion if I may say so. Click here to download a selfmade information sheet. Later when the cards were released, an ad sheet as seen here below could be downloaded. Much to late for the card collectors.

“Throwback Card Sets”

The first throwback set is sixty cards from the 1969 James Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". The cards are in black & white. This is very rare because in the sixties this was the first trading card set created in full colour. The cards were made by the UK based Anglo Confectionary. The second throwback set are fifty full colour cards showing pictures of Roger Moore's second James Bond movie "The Man With The Golden Gun". The movie premiere was on the 19th December 1974. The third and last throwback set are sixty-five full colour cards from Timothy Dalton's second James Bond movie "Licence To Kill". The cards are randomly inserted by one in six packs.

“Golden Parallel Cards”

Two golden parallel sets to collect at staggering prices. Each card is individually numbered from #001 to #125. Again the golden sets are the same as their basic set except for the golden embossed logo and the golden number on the reverse. These golden parallel cards are inserted in 1/24 packs, only 1 card per box. On eBay a single golden card goes between 6 and 14. A full set is more than 500. Your mission Mr. Bond is to invade Fort Knox.

“The Autograph Cards”

Thirty-six new autograph cards including a full bleed autograph card signed in person by Daniela Bianchi. Daniela played Tatiana Romanova next to Sean Connery in the 1963 James Bond movie "From Russia With Love". She was born in Rome, Italy on the 31st January 1942. To expand or complete your 40th anniversary style cards there are twelve new cards to collect. The missing numbers in the 40th Anniversary Style are (A155, A223, A224, A225, A267, A269, A283 and A284). Again there are two different types of cards, one displaying in the left corner the gunlogo, the other displays the 40th anniversary logo.
Twenty-one full bleed cards including Ben Whishaw, Stanley Morgan, Jesper Christensen, Samantha Bond and many others. Dame Judi Dench signed a card for the silver series, Daniel Craig used gold ink and the last card is only available when you have an Archive Box, a full bleed autograph card signed by Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore in the 1964 James Bond movie "Goldfinger".

“Relic Cards”

Whoops, here we are with a new style of relic cards, thirteen new relics from "Casino Royale", "Quantum Of Solace" and "SkyFall". Sad but nothing from the latest James Bond movie SPECTRE. All the cards have a piece of fabric that came from the clothing worn by the actor who is displayed on the card. Each card is individually numbered from 1 to 200. Randomly packed by one for ninety-six packs makes these cards very hard to get (1/96).

“SPECTRE Metal Gallery Cards”

Oh my God, ten new Metal Gallery Cards, each displaying another picture in the front and on the reverse. The cards are numbered from G1 to G10. The background for the front view is the skeleton mask worn by Daniel Craig in the opening sequence from SPECTRE. The cards are super rare, only one card can be found in one- hundred and forty four packs (1/144). Just go buy some cases the complete your collection. Happy hunting!

“Double-Sided Mirror Cards”

New to this card set are the Double-Sided Mirror cards. To start this new card design, Rittenhouse Archive created eight cards: M01, M04, M07, M10, M13, M16, M19 and M22. The card number stands for the movie number. Each card displays a picture of James Bond and the card reverse displays his nemesis. For example card M07 displays Sean Connery in a "Diamonds Are Forever" scene while the reverse shows a picture of Blofeld played by Charles Gray. Again these new cards are extremely difficult to get your hands of because only one card can be found in one-hundred and forty four packs (1/144).

“Case Toppers”

The Case Topper card CT1 comes as a bonus when purchasing a full case. Each side of the card shows poster artwork from "The World Is Not Enough". For the 6-case incentive card, Dame Judi Dench wrote her autograph in silver ink and so she becomes a member of the silver autograph collection. The 9-case incentive is an autograph card signed by Daniel Craig in gold ink.

“Archive Box”

When purchasing 15 cases, you receive a set of archive boxes as a bonus. Yes a set of boxes, because a factory sealed Archive Box is actually three seperate factory sealed boxes (labeled as A, B & C) all shrinkwrapped together. Within these sealed boxes are sealed packs, and within those sealed packs you find all of the following treasures.

  • 72-card "The World Is Not Enough" Base Cards
  • 65-card "Licence To Kill" Throwback Set
  • 50-card "The Man With The Golden Gun" Throwback Set
  • 60-card "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" Throwback Set
  • 8 Double-Sided Mirror Cards
  • 13 Relic Cards
  • 10 random Gold Parallel "The World Is Not Enough" base cards
  • 10 random Gold Parallel "Licence To Kill" base cards
  • 33 Pack Inserted Autograph Cards

  • 1 "The World Is Not Enough" Case Topper Card
  • 1 Six Case Incentive Judi Dench Silver Signature Autograph Card
  • 1 Nine Case Incentive Daniel Craig Gold Signature Autograph Card
  • 1 Archive Box Exclusive Honor Blackman Autograph Card

Easy collecting but still missing most of the gold parallel cards, instead you receive an exclusive full bleed autograph card personally signed by Honor Blackman. To obtain a set of archive boxes you will have to pay between 1500€ and 2000€ on eBay. The question is: "Is this value for money or not ?"

Archive Box Exclusive Card

To store and protect your precious cards Rittenhouse created a special binder to protect this huge trading card set. The front is finished in a black scuba vinyl displaying the title in golden lettering. The promotion card P3 comes as a bonus when purchasing the binder. This exclusive card depicts a still of George Lazenby in the 1969 James Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". Also printed on the binder is "2016 Edition", so I guess we can expect a "2017 Edition" next year.

"007 Classics Exclusive Binder"

If your wallet can afford a case or a pile of cases as seen here below, then go ahead Mr. Bond and complete your collection.
